We examine the entanglement between two qubits, supposed to be remotely located and driven by independent quantized optical fields. No interaction is allowed between the qubits, but their degree of entanglement changes as a function of time. We report a collapse and revival of entanglement that is similar to the collapse and revival of single-atom properties in cavity QED.

Phonons, and in particular surface acoustic wave phonons, have been proposed as a means to coherently couple distant solid-state quantum systems. Recent experiments have shown that superconducting qubits can control and detect individual phonons in a resonant structure, enabling the coherent generation and measurement of complex stationary phonon states. Here, we report the deterministic emission and capture of itinerant surface acoustic wave phonons, enabling the quantum entanglement of two superconducting qubits. Using a 2 mm-long acoustic quantum communication channel, equivalent to a 500 ns delay line, we demonstrate the emission and re-capture of a phonon by one qubit; quantum state transfer between two qubits with a 67% efficiency; and, by partial transfer of a phonon between two qubits, generation of an entangled Bell pair with a fidelity of $mathcal{F}_B = 84 pm 1$ %
Magnetic solitons can constitute a means for manipulating qubits from a distance. This would overcome the necessity of directly applying selective magnetic fields, which is unfeasible in the case of a matrix of qubits embedded in a solid-state quantu m device. If the latter contained one-dimensional Heisenberg spin chains coupled to each qubit, one can originate a soliton in a selected chain by applying a time-dependent field at one end of it, far from the qubits. The generation of realistic solitons has been simulated. When a suitable soliton passes by, the coupled qubit undergoes nontrivial operations, even in the presence of moderate thermal noise.
We consider two qubits interacting with a common bosonic bath, but not directly between themselves. We derive the (bipartite) entanglement generation conditions for Gaussian non-Markovian dynamical maps and show that they are similar as in the Markov ian regime; however, they depend on different physical coefficients and hold on different time scales. Indeed, for small times, in the non-Markovian regime entanglement is possibly generated on a shorter time scale ($propto t^2$) than in the Markovian one ($propto t$). Moreover, although the singular coupling limit of non-Markovian dynamics yields Markovian ones, we show that the same limit does not lead from non-Markovian entanglement generation conditions to Markovian ones. Also, the entanglement generation conditions do not depend on the initial time for non-Markovian open dynamics resulting from couplings to bosonic Gaussian baths, while they may depend on time for open dynamics originated by couplings to classical, stochastic Gaussian environments.
We introduce a scheme for remote entanglement generation for the photon polarization. The technique is based on transferring the initial frequency correlations to specific polarization-frequency correlations by local dephasing and their subsequent re moval by frequency up-conversion. On fundamental level, our theoretical results show how to create and transfer entanglement, to particles which never interact, by means of local operations. This possibility stems from the multi-path interference and its control in frequency space. For applications, the developed techniques and results allow for the remote generation of entanglement with distant parties without Bell state measurements and opens the perspective to probe frequency-frequency entanglement by measuring the polarization state of the photons.
An electromagnetic field quadrature measurement, performed on one of the modes of the nonlocal single-photon state $a|1,0>-b|0,1>$, collapses it into a superposition of the single-photon and vacuum states in the other mode. We use this effect to impl ement remote preparation of arbitrary single-mode photonic qubits conditioned on observation of a preselected quadrature value. The quantum efficiency of the prepared qubit can be higher than that of the initial single photon.
