We implement the damage spreading technique on 2-dimensional isotropic and anisotropic Bak-Sneppen models. Our extensive numerical simulations show that there exists a power-law sensitivity to the initial conditions at the statistically stationary state (self-organized critical state). Corresponding growth exponent $alpha$ for the Hamming distance and the dynamical exponent $z$ are calculated. These values allow us to observe a clear data collapse of the finite size scaling for bo

The conventional Hamming distance measurement captures only the short-time dynamics of the displacement between the uncorrelated random configurations. The minimum difference technique introduced by Tirnakli and Lyra [Int. J. Mod. Phys. C 14, 805 (20 03)] is used to study the short-time and long-time dynamics of the two distinct random configurations of the isotropic and anisotropic Bak-Sneppen models on a square lattice. Similar to 1-dimensional case, the time evolution of the displacement is intermittent. The scaling behavior of the jump activity rate and waiting time distribution reveal the absence of typical spatial-temporal scales in the mechanism of displacement jumps used to quantify the convergence dynamics.

The short-time and long-time dynamics of the Bak-Sneppen model of biological evolution are investigated using the damage spreading technique. By defining a proper Hamming distance measure, we are able to make it exhibits an initial power-law growth w hich, for finite size systems, is followed by a decay towards equilibrium. In this sense, the dynamics of self-organized critical states is shown to be similar to the one observed at the usual critical point of continuous phase-transitions and at the onset of chaos of non-linear low-dimensional dynamical maps. The transient, pre-asymptotic and asymptotic exponential relaxation of the Hamming distance between two initially uncorrelated equilibrium configurations is also shown to be fitted within a single mathematical framework. A connection with nonextensive statistical mechanics is exhibited.
We study the $pm J$ three-dimensional Ising model with a longitudinal anisotropic bond randomness on the simple cubic lattice. The random exchange interaction is applied only in the $z$ direction, whereas in the other two directions, $xy$ - planes, w e consider ferromagnetic exchange. By implementing an effective parallel tempering scheme, we outline the phase diagram of the model and compare it to the corresponding isotropic one, as well as to a previously studied anisotropic (transverse) case. We present a detailed finite-size scaling analysis of the ferromagnetic - paramagnetic and spin glass - paramagnetic transition lines, and we also discuss the ferromagnetic - spin glass transition regime. We conclude that the present model shares the same universality classes with the isotropic model, but at the symmetric point has a considerably higher transition temperature from the spin-glass state to the paramagnetic phase. Our data for the ferromagnetic - spin glass transition line are supporting a forward behavior in contrast to the reentrant behavior of the isotropic model.

We study the real time evolution of the correlation functions in a globally quenched interacting one dimensional lattice system by means of time adaptive density matrix renormalization group. We find a clear light-cone behavior quenching the repulsiv e interaction from the gapped density wave regime. The spreading velocity increases with the final values of the interaction and then saturates at a certain finite value. In the case of a Luttinger liquid phase as the initial state, for strong repulsive interaction quenches, a more complex dynamics occurs as a result of bound state formations. From the other side in the attractive regime, depending on where connected correlation functions are measured, one can observe a delay in the starting time evolution and a coexistence of ballistic and localized signals.
We address here a few classical lattice--spin models, involving $n-$component unit vectors ($n=2,3$), associated with a $D-$dimensional lattice $mathbb{Z}^D,,D=1,2$, and interacting via a pair potential restricted to nearest neighbours and being isot ropic in spin space, i.e. defined by a function of the scalar product between the interacting spins. When the potential involves a continuous function of the scalar product, the Mermin--Wagner theorem and its generalizations exclude orientational order at all finite temperatures in the thermodynamic limit, and exclude phase transitions at finite temperatures when $D=1$; on the other hand, we have considered here some comparatively simple functions of the scalar product which are bounded from below, diverge to $+infty$ for certain mutual orientations, and are continuous almost everywhere with integrable singularities. Exact solutions are presented for $D=1$, showing absence of phase transitions and absence of orientational order at all finite temperatures in the thermodynamic limit; for $D=2$, and in the absence of more stringent mathematical results, extensive simulations carried out on some of them point to the absence of orientational order at all finite temperatures, and suggest the existence of a Berezinskivi-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition.
